Tickets are now on sale for the inaugural Paws For A Cause charity dog show at Rainscombe Park, Oare, on June 21.

The show will be a fantastic day out for families and four-legged friends in aid of the Wiltshire and Bath Air Ambulance Charity and Wiltshire Bobby Van Trust. Held amid the splendid grounds of Rainscombe Park, the canine cavalcade will have something for everyone.

One of the stars of the show will be the Paws For Thought dog display team who will be showing off their agility and intelligence with tricks and fun races. Among the highlights are dog races, fun agility, unusual retrieves, tricks and exceptional commentary and even a Jack Russell ladder walking.

It won’t just be the display teams taking centre stage, every dog will have its day in our 14 show classes that are open to all. There will be a chance for visitors to show off their beloved pet in a range of show categories to be in with a chance of a rosette and goodie bag.

Dogs aged over six months can classes including Most fabulous fella; Most lovely lady; Precious Pup (6 – 12 months); Golden Oldie (7 years & over); Cutest couple (of dogs); Junior Handler (12 years and under); Junior Handler (12 – 16 years); Best rescue; Dog with the waggiest tail; Sweetest expression; Best Condition dog; Best Condition bitch and Dog the judges would most like to take home.

There is also a Have A Go ring for anyone to show off their dog’s agility and among the challenges will be Hoopers, where dogs navigate a course of hoops, barrels and tunnels working in a team with their handlers.

Have-a-go Agility is a fun, introductory experience designed to allow dog owners and their dogs to try out agility activities without the pressure of competition.

Temptation Alley is a fun and often challenging activity where the participants test their dog's recall by calling them back through a course lined with enticing treats and toys. The goal is for the dog to resist the distractions and to return to the handler quickly.

Everyone loves to see dogs enjoying themselves so a display by K9 Aqua Sports, who will be showcasing the Aqua Sport of dog diving, will be a popular attraction. It’s all about having fun with canine friends and any breed, size and ability (over six months) can come and join in the soggy, doggy fun.

As well as all the fun and competition there will be a children’s activity section, stalls and refreshments.

Bobby Van Director Jennie Shaw said: “We are looking forward to a wonderful day at Rainscombe Park and we are very grateful to Robert Hiscox for generously allowing us to use the grounds.

“This will be a great day out for dog lovers and families and as well as having lots to see and do, it will be a celebration of everything to do with our favourite pets. It will also help raise much-needed funds to support two much-needed charities that have to raise money to maintain their service.”

Tickets are just £8 if you book in advance and £10 on the day. Carers’ tickets are available at 50 per cent discount and under 12s go free. Tickets are available at wiltshirebobbyvan.org.uk/future-event

The NHS in the local area (BANES, Swindon & Wiltshire) is trying to find out more about why people make the decision to seek treatment at local Accident & Emergecy departments. We are looking to get as many people as possible to complete a survey so we can understand more.

Could you please help us improve hospital A&E services in the local area?

During 2024 there was a 5.6 per cent increase in visits to Accident and Emergency Departments in Bath, Swindon and Salisbury, mainly due to a rise in the number of ‘walk-in’ patients.

To help understand the reasons for this, Bath and North East Somerset, Swindon and Wiltshire NHS Integrated Care Board (BSW ICB) has launched the Big A&E Survey – a major outreach exercise find out why more people are attending A&E departments in Bath, Swindon and Salisbury.

In order to bring waiting times down, BSW ICB needs to understand why more people are going to A&Es instead of using other NHS services, such as GP surgeries, Minor Injury Units or the NHS 111 service. With BSW’s population growing all the time, it’s crucial to know the reasons behind this trend.

Over the next three months, BSW ICB is working with Healthwatch and hospitals in Bath, Swindon and Salisbury to find out more through the Big A&E Survey.

There will be face-to-face questionnaires carried out at all three A&Es in BSW. Additionally, a digital survey will explore why patients choose EDs and their awareness of other treatment options. It will also look for any health inequalities and service gaps.

The findings will be analysed to understand what’s behind the rising demand and to make recommendations for plans to reduce this demand and improve communication with specific population groups needing support.

How you can get involved
